Saturday, October 28th, 2006

Truth be told

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

truth be told, i like to show my happy side more often.
truth be told, i don’t express sorrow well.
truth be told, i feel lost and lonely many a times.
truth be told, i feel i’m existing, not living.
truth be told, i have many friends.
truth be told, i am not close to most of them.
truth be told, i am a loner by nature.
truth be told, i prefer solitude over crowds.
truth be told, i wish for true love.
truth be told, i suck at loving another person.
truth be told, i am not a good student.
truth be told, i am not a bad one either.
truth be told, my aim in life is simple.
truth be told, my thinking complicates.
truth be told, the world is a beautiful place.
truth be told, too little people enjoy the little things.
truth be told, we take ourselves too seriously sometimes.
truth be told, i wish i could be more serious sometimes.

truth be told, all the things i said above, are true.

Windtalkers

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

just caught the show "Windtalkers" on Channel 5. i think i saw it like 3 times already… still gets me everytime though. makes me wonder about many issues brought up in the show, either ‘in your face’ kind, or the more subtle ones.

Loyalty to country. These codetalkers were Navajos, natives of America and even though they were ‘conquered’, they actually felt loyalty to America… hard to imagine fighting for the grandchildren of the killers of your grandparents… These indians used their complex language to come up with a code, much like what modern day army uses, to prevent the Japanese from breaking down information passed through the radiowaves. How important were they? Let’s just say many many many more Americans would have died if not for them. Here’s a list of what their codes were like; http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq61-4.htm

Friends over Mission. In the show, Nicholas Cage was supposed to kill his charge,Ben, a Navajo codetalker if ever there was a chance the codetalker may be captured. That was his orders. In fact, he did kill one Navajo that was under another Marine’s charge. That codetalker knew and actually signalled to Nicholas Cage to blow him up together with the japanese trying to subdue him. Nearing the end, when all hopes seem lost, Ben understood and asked Cage to shoot him. That was when Cage said "No one else is going to die today."
Would you kill a friend if it was crucial to the lives of millions? and it is not through any fault of your friend, just that his living would mean danger? how can you choose? I wonder…

Following Orders. Everyone knows in the Army, you follow orders first, then lodge a complaint later if you feel anything was out of line. Reflect back to Singapore’s very own fatal ‘training incident’. 2nd Sgt Hu, a friend of mine though not close, was drowned by his POW training instructors. (POW = prisoner of war) These Commandos warrant officers were not following the safety rules laid down to prevent such accidents. They flaunted it like it meant nothing. To me, they are murderers. And should be charged as such. My close friend escaped any unfortunate incidents that fateful day, cause he was one of the last few supposed to undergo that ‘training program’. But he lost his platoonmate and a mother lost her eldest son. So why didn’t ANYONE at that place stop those shitheads i’ll never know… Singaporeans are a cowardly bunch, too scared to cross any authority. That’s why i admire some of the Opposition, having the guts to stand up. Though a certain Chee Soon Quan could do it with more intelligence and finesse…

Enemies or Civilians. How can you ever distingush the truth? When you’re in enemy territory, albeit the people you see are wearing civilian clothings, can you really trust that they won’t stab you with a knife when you walk past them? We are all sitting in a comfortable place pointing fingers at soldiers fighting wars, and how some of their actions seem so callous and wicked sick. Like a certain platoon of Marines in Iraq apparently went on a killing spree and shot many supposedly civilians. That may be cold blooded murder to us all, but in a warzone, and trust me i really think Iraq IS still a warzone, rights and wrongs are not so easily seperated. Given a choice of either you shooting the guy or risk him shooting you, what would you choose? your life, or a chance that the person means you no harm?

Religion. Oh this is going to stir some comments, but since it’s my blog, i don’t really care. In the show, the Navajo Ben was forced into Catholic as part of the missionary work in Christianizing these natives. He said "we weren’t allowed to speak Navajo, and one Sunday i forgot. They tied me with my back to the heater in the basement. For two days." Well that might not be the exact words, but the meaning is plain.

I’m not saying Christianity is bad, or any other religion hasn’t got a checkered past. But if anything, it teaches us not to force our religion upon ANYONE else. Sure you can spread your faith and let people understand it a little better, and if they are interested, they will come to you. STOP pushing people like they are sinners waiting for you to save them (which ironically is EXACTLY what some Christians believe) Respect all religions, for they all of them have their roots firmly placed for thousands of years, if not longer. Here’s some advice for any of the Christian faith entertaining the thought of coverting me: Try it only if you deem yourself well-versed in your faith. Process your Bible, not regurgitate it. Throwing quotes from it doesn’t make you right, for i have quotes of my own from the Bible too. Yes i have one, for i make the effort to understand what i do not believe in. Do it at your own risk.

Humanity. We are really fragile creatures prone to violent conducts, and sometimes at something totally intangible such as ideals. Some may say ideals are the single most important thing we should live, or die, for. I say that ideals are products of our over-cephalization. In layman terms, heads/brains getting too big. We have to deal with our emotions and morals and thoughts. We evolved too much, and Mother Nature should now be regretting that. Our ‘intelligence’ has allowed us to plunder this Earth and drive it towards a state of disrepairment (or another real, existing word with the same meaning) How smart of us to do this so that we can all become extinct in, i predict, less than a century from now. Three cheers to humankind, virus dominante of Earth.

Well that’s all i gathered from this show. Almost 1000 word essay. Sometimes i question my Major of choice. But well animals still rule. And really, people ain’t the dominant species. Ants are. If ever an all out war occurs between us and ants, i’m putting my bet on those little insignificant creatures we like to kill for fun.

Once upon a time..

Friday, October 20th, 2006

Martin Luther King Jr once had this inspirational speech for his fight against rasicm. "I have a dream, that one day…" About blacks and whites living together peacefully and equally. That was a very nice oration by him.

Mohammad Gandhi once advocated the use of non-violence against the British suppression. He said "An eye for an eye, and the whole world will be blind." That was a very nice quote from him.

Yuhan once thought Chinese in Singapore was the majority race. Then he went on the train on weekend nights. And realise that was just a myth. That was a very surprising revelation for him.

You once read this blog and found it to be nonsensical. It still is. Somethings never change. That is a statement in agreement with you.

Monday, October 16th, 2006

ME

Saturday, October 14th, 2006

haha no not a post about yuhan… *phew* more like what i saw today in school. a guy wearing the giordano ME tee shirt. it’s a whole series of tees Giordano sells with "ME" as a central theme incorporated into all kinds of designs. like ‘ME’ in all the old chinese characters etc. what i saw was a Tic Tac Toe design, with three crosses forming a line diagonally already. meaning cross won. the crosses were red. the circles were placed in another 2 empty spaces. ‘ME’ was place in one of the spaces as well. ‘ME’ and circles were blue in colour. the moment i saw this, i was quite tickled.

since the circles and ‘ME’ were the same colour, it means ‘ME’ lost. so doesnt that make the person wearing this ‘ME’ t-shirt a LOSER?? maybe i read too much into the design but i really think the person that came up with this idea is an evil genius! and the person that wore this a complete idiot! hahhaa

on a completely different note and tone, i realise nowadays i dun really feel like talking much. not the go up and entertain mode most of the time. having a MP4 player doesnt help (it’s free from TIMES). whenever i dun wanna converse, i immerse myself in music, the old kinds. hahaha~ Songs i like are usually those released before the 2000s. yup i’m tt old… almost Cat Y le!

hope to have a more fun sunday…

my head hurts! (big deal..)

1 essay down, 1562456 more to go… oh wait.. that’s not right.. should be 1562457… argH~~ oh yah ginny said this blog is so not updated regularly, which i agree~ cause i usually dont talk about mundane and everyday happenings here. like to post mindless snippets of nonsense of just screw people that read my blog with incomprehensible chinese ‘poems’ and ’short stories’. today topic of the day is: Does Sky’s ‘good friend’ deserves to be slapped?

oh for the uninitiated, Sky’s ‘good friend’ is this year3 LSM guy whose surname is very near sky’s and mine. that’s why we end up sitting near him sometimes for lab sessions, like this sem’s LSM3212. ever since year1, we couldn’t stand his ‘enthusiasm’ for lessons. "oh so cool, let’s do that again!" kinda stuff happens regularly when he is around… and we are doing electro-cardiogram for goodness sake!! even someone who just met him couldnt stand his antics.. sometimes i just wanna slap him with a large trout or something~ anyway today he was at it again during LSM312 tutorial with Lina Lim. She’s a biatch, but tt’s another story for another time. ‘good friend’ here was like so excited listening to.. heartbeats! like different kinds of heartbeats, those with certain defects in their valves (for those non LSM students, valves are… nvm.. ahhaha) He was ‘oh yeah let’s listen to that again!" when Lina Lim was asking whether we wanted to.. i almost turned ard and flung my 20 tons school bag at him! along with my 2K laptop just to prove a point.. oh well in the end i couldnt be bothered and went back to sleep.. ahahah

ok enough bitching for now, going to start on my 2nd essay.. which means 1562456 more to go when i finish! yay!! hahahhaha

Monday, October 2nd, 2006
