i still think kids are the most beautiful angels on Earth

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

i work in the Science Centre. As a showhost for the Dinosaur Exhibition. everytime i work, i see kids. millions of them. and ALL of them are wonderful. no doubt there are a few that can get under anyone’s skin, but a little patience is usually enough.

sometimes i hear about how people think kids are little devils. sometimes i feel the same. but inside i truely believe kids will light up your day, if you let them. We adults tend to impose our thinking on their behaviors. a simple "dig pit" in Science Centre provides countless such examples:

"boy you must dig here, got more fossil"

"aiyo girl you must sweep the sand this way.. not like that…"

what’s wrong with letting the little kids play the way they want to? though i have to stop some of them because it was unsafe to be throwing sand around, but that’s only because parents are overprotective of their children nowadays. a little sand and they’ll complain. Some parents want their kids to play in the dig-pit, yet doesnt want to step in for fear of getting sand in their shoes… at the same time convincing their children "it’s just sand.. we can get it out later." Talk about irony.

i dun donate to charity for aged/orphans/diseased. i donate to animal shelters, SPCA etc. i believe animals have equal rights to this planet as we do. more so in fact considering they are the original masters of this place. and they definitely have self-awareness. many examples of that has been recorded. we are not unique, just slightly more complicated.

we have thoughts that sometimes are unnecessary to our survival, but which make us homo sapiens. Shakespeare, Da Vinci, Mozart etc. we wouldn’t have died out without them, yet they are so important to us. Humans. what an inadequate yet dominating, ugly yet beautiful, complicated yet simple mammal. if only we see ourselves truely as who we are and not glorify ourselves through many different means.

We are a hairless, naked branch of the primate family, and we are closer to chimpanzees then God. At least we can do most of the things a chimpanzee is capable of.

Just some drifting thoughts i’ve decided to record down today

A hectic hectic week

oh gosh i didnt know doing a presentation could take so much outta me! Truth be told, it wasn’t just those you did for your lecturers/tutors, but it was in front of approx 200++ Alumni members of Science Faculty.. I had a few run throughs with the Dean and Caroline, my ganjie~ wasnt really up to expectations! So it was practice, practice and more practice for me. Surprisingly, on Saturday itself, i was pretty calm. just before the emcee called my name, i feel a buzz in my stomach, not nervousness, but excitment! hahaha it was really an experience to remember~ In the end, i manage to get the audience to laugh a little, enjoyed the presentation on Science Club, and a few positive comments from people i didn’t know. =) My only regret was that Mich couldn’t be there to see me in action~ oh well, at least Zirong got it all on tape! hahahah i’m such a showoff…

Tmr i’ll be giving a briefing to the seniors of Science Orientation Week 2006, so hopefully i have a good attendance! SCAMP prep is next on Wednesday before i round off this week with a chalet for Jasmine’s 21st Bday on Friday and a prisch gathering on Saturday!

now you understand my title for this post..
